Past Tense:

ఈ Past tense ను మనం జరిగిపోయిన విషయాలు తెలిపే సందర్భాల్లో ఉపయోగించాలి.

Simple past
Past continuous
Past perfect
Past perfect continuous

Simple past:

Positive=sub+V2+ object

Positive question=Did+Sub+V1+object

Negative =sub+didn’t+V1+ object

Negative question=didn’t+sub+V1+ object

Examples:

Simple past structure Positive:sub+V2+object

I received your mail yesterday. నాకు నిన్ననే మీ మెయిల్ వచ్చింది.
They wrote all the exam last week. వాళ్లు అన్ని పరీక్షలు పోయిన వారమే రాశారు.
Pranay met her a year ago. ప్రణయ్ ఆమెను ఒక సంవత్సరం క్రితం కలిశాడు.

Simple past structure Positive question:Did+sub+V1+object

Did you meet them yesterday? నీవు నిన్న వాళ్లను కలిసావా?
Did they write the exam? వాళ్ళు ఆ పరీక్ష రాశారా?
Did he take the book? అతను ఆ పుస్తకం తీసుకున్నాడా?

Simple past structure Negative :sub+didn’t+V1+object

We did not tell them anything. మేము వాళ్లకు ఏమీ చెప్పలేదు.
You did not meet me yesterday. నిన్ను నువ్వు నన్ను కలవలేదు.
He did not complete M.A. అతను M.A. కంప్లీట్ చేయలేదు

Simple past structure Negative question :didn’t+sub+V1+object

Didn’t you come late? నువ్వు లేటుగా రాలేదా?
Didn’t they ask you? వాళ్ళు మిమ్మల్ని అడగలేదా?
Why didn’t you attempt? నువ్వు ఎందుకు అటెంప్ట్ చేయలేదు.

Past continuous:

గతంలో ఒక పని జరుగుతూ ఉంది అని చెప్పే సందర్భంలో వాడతాము లేదా గతంలో రెండు పనులు ఒకేసారి జరిగితే long action ను Past continuous లోనూ short action ను simple past లోనూ ఉపయోగించాలి.

Positive=sub+ was/were+V4+ object

Positive question=was/were+Sub+V4+object

Negative =sub+ was/were+not+V4+ object

Negative question=was/were+sub+not+V4+ object

Examples:

past continues positive Structure=sub+ was/were+V4+ object

I was travelling to Chennai by last Sunday. పోయిన ఆదివారం నేను చెన్నై ప్రయాణం చేస్తూ ఉన్నాను.
They were speaking all that night. ఆ రోజు రాత్రంతా వాళ్ళు మాట్లాడుతూ ఉన్నారు.
When he was coming, I went to college. అతను వస్తున్నప్పుడు నేను కాలేజీ కి వెళ్లాను.

Helping verb :

I, he, she, it=was

We, you, they=were

past continues Positive question Structure=was/were+Sub+V4+object

Was I travelling to Chennai by last Sunday? నేను పోయిన ఆదివారం చెన్నై కి ప్రయాణం చేస్తూ ఉన్నానా?
Were they speaking all that night? ఆ రోజు రాత్రంతా వాళ్ళు మాట్లాడుతూ ఉన్నారా?

past continues Negative Structure =sub+ was/were+not+V4+ object

I wasn’t travelling to Chennai by last Sunday. నేను చెన్నైకు పోయిన ఆదివారం ప్రయాణిస్తూ లేను.
They weren’t speaking all that night. ఆ రోజు రాత్రంతా వాళ్ళు మాట్లాడుతూ లేరు.

past continues Negative question Structure =was/were+sub+not+V4+ object

Was I not traveling to Chennai last Sunday? పోయిన ఆదివారం నేను చెన్నైకి ప్రయాణిస్తూ లేనా?
weren’t they not speaking all that night? ఆ రోజు రాత్రంతా వాళ్ళు మాట్లాడుతూ లేరా?

Past perfect Tense:

గతంలో ఒక పని particularly one time కి complete అయితే అప్పుడు మనం నేనే ఉపయోగించాలి. అలానే గతంలో రెండు పనులు జరిగినట్లయితే మొదటి పని Past perfect tense లో రెండవ పనిని simple past లో use చేయాలి.

past perfect tense Structure:sub+had+V3+Obj

I had come here, before you came. నువ్వు రాక ముందే నేను ఇక్కడికి వచ్చాను.
Before I reached home ,it had started raining. నేను ఇంటికి రాకముందే వర్షం ప్రారంభమైంది.

Past perfect continuous:

past perfect continues Structure: sub+ had been +V4+ object

గతంలో ఒక పని చాలాకాలంపాటు జరుగుతూ ఉంది అనే సందర్భంలో దేనిని ఉపయోగించాలి

He had been playing cricket since he was a boy but give it up later when he took up a job. అతను పిల్లవాడిగా ఉన్నపుడు క్రికెట్ ఆడుతూ ఉండేవాడు కానీ దానిని వదిలేశాడు ఎప్పుడైతే అతనికి ఉద్యోగం వచ్చిందో అతను క్రికెట్ ఆటను వదిలివేయడం జరిగింది.
